Radical Numerics is an AI research lab building general biological intelligence, with the stated purpose of reducing human suffering. Its team created Evo and started the field of generative genomics; that work appeared on the cover of Science and was presented on the main stage of TED2025. Evo produced the first AI-designed gene therapy tool based on CRISPR-Cas9 and the first AI-generated whole genome. Evo 2, published in Nature, is the largest fully open source AI project in any domain. The lab redesigned the foundation model training stack to turn raw scientific data into generative models, and was founded on the premise that the same capability that designs cures also lowers the barrier to engineered threats, so the defence work belongs with it.
