faire.com (opens in a new tab)Faire operates an online wholesale marketplace where independent retailers, down to the neighbourhood boutique, find products to stock from brands around the world. Its technology, data and machine learning link a community of more than 150,000 brands and local shops, and its tools and insights are meant to let small businesses hold their own against big-box chains and e-commerce giants. The bet is on local commerce: the U.S., Canada and Europe have over a million independent retailers, whose combined revenue is more than double that of Walmart and Amazon together. Early product and engineering leads from Square founded Faire in 2017, and it has offices in San Francisco, Kitchener-Waterloo and Salt Lake City.
