Search engine built for AI systems
exa.ai (opens in a new tab)Exa builds a search engine designed for AI systems rather than for people — retrieval shaped around how models query and consume information, which is a different problem from ranking ten blue links for a human reader. As models increasingly reach for the web mid-inference, the quality of what comes back sets a ceiling on what they can answer. The team is around 100 people, largely based in San Francisco, drawn from Harvard, MIT, Meta and Google Research alongside former founders and dropouts.
